12 Kinky Straight Yaki Looks Worth Trying

If you’re thinking about switching up your look with some faux tresses, consider trying out a kinky straight texture. Thanks to the natural hair movement, fake hair now comes in textures that more resemble our own. Yaki hair, which has been around for ages, is a type of hair texture that really comes close to being like black hair. It’s not to silky and shiny and has a little bit of kink to it, looking almost as if it’s straightened natural hair.

If you’re looking to get the perfect texture, there are a few types to choose from. From kinkiest to least kinky you’ve got Afro Kinky, Kinky-Straight, Italian Yaki, Coarse Yaki, Yaki and Light Yaki. Then when it comes to styling you’ve got lots of looks to choose from. Check out a few of the styles we’ve rounded up. Scroll through the gallery above or watch the tutorials below!

Kinky Straight Human Hair

Let’s start with the expensive stuff! The hair used in the following tutorials are largely virgin hair wigs and as a result they’re pretty pricey, usually starting at around $100. But for that money, you get hair that usually last a long time and you can do a bit more with it, namely applying heat to it.

Vlogger MrsDivaLike creates six looks with her human hair kinky straight wig. She shares that there are three inches of lace in the front of the hair for parting while the back is weaved. The wig cap inside had adjustable straps and combs. You can wear the wig without using glue, tape or other adhesives.

Alicia, who’s one half of the YouTube channel, TwinGoddesses, created a simple half-up half-down look on a lace front wig. Details on the wig below. She creates the look with a little bit of leave-out, which she explains she straightened without heat, just some wrapping and edge control. Vlogger, TheBrilliantBeauty (TBB), creates her own kinky-straight wig, with the help of a glue gun. It only takes her about 30 minutes to make the wig. (Here’s our guide to creating a U-Part wig with or without glue). She straightens out her hair using some heat protectant, a light blow dry and a little flat ironing. She styles the wig by wand curling it with a curling iron in half-inch section. In this video her leave-out isn’t great because the color isn’t a good match. But you get the gist.

Cheap Kinky Straight Hair

For those who might be interested in kinky straight hair but aren’t willing to dish out hundreds of dollars, there are a lot of cheaper options. Your local beauty supply store likely has a few wigs, or bundles with a kinky texture. The trade off for the lower price will likely be that the wig is synthetic so you can’t put heat on it, or if you can, you can only put low heat on it. It most likely will shed or tangle but then again, if you’re looking for cheap hair you’re likely not planning on using the hair extensively.

TBB tried a $10 wig she found at her local beauty supply store, it was called Deja Vu Perm Kinky Yaki. There isn’t a tutorial here. She simply styles it with a side part. But if you’re considering getting a quick-fix wig, this is a good video to watch.

TBB makes our round up yet again, this time with a style she creates for less then $20.00. She bought a pack of hair, really a kit called Peruvian Blow-out Texture, that contained three lengths of weave and a closure.
