Question: Hi Rolanda! Lately, my scalp has been unusually flaky. I don’t think it’s dandruff and my scalp doesn’t feel irritated or itchy so I’m not sure what this condition might be. Are there any products I can use to get rid of the flakes and perhaps stop them from coming back?
Answer: It is highly likely that if you are seeing visible flaking, you may have dandruff. Your scalp skin may be responding with the flaking, but you are lacking the skin irritation response which is itching. To best rid the flaking, it is recommended to use an anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner like Pantene’s Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. This will not only work to help eliminate flaking but if used on a regular basis, it will also work to prevent them from coming back. Separate from this, pay careful attention to the amount of styling products you use that may deposit on your scalp, as well as your hair washing frequency. If you are using multiple styling products and the time between washes are extended, it is also possible to see visible flaking from products deposited on the scalp as well.
