Another year brings another round of eye catching inspiration! From born again naturalistas to roaring manes and everything in between, Un-ruly presents 2015 Best of Celebrity Hair!
Miss Unapologetic

Antonia’s pick: In a time when there are plenty of issues to speak out on, many celebrities cherry-pick the causes they publicly stand behind, possibly to avoid alienating any one segment of their fans. Leave it to one of the youngest celebrities of the moment to be one of the few that unabashedly voices her concerns about current affairs. Actress Amandla Stenberg was first known for her role in the the first installment of The Hunger Games, but these days has made news for being an activist and breaking down the layers of Black hair for those who may not know. In August of this year she sported her fiery natural curls in a shoot for Dazed magazine that seemed to accurately capture her fiery and ambitious spirit. Earlier this year the 17-year-old starlet got some extra mileage out of grey box braids by cutting them into a bob then taking them out just before the root (à la micro braids), showing the world that she’s not only capable of making poignant statements with her words but with her appearance as well.

Ellen’s pick: Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Iman Shumpert and the first lady of G.O.O.D. Music Teyana Taylor have stolen our hearts in recent months leading up to their celebrated pregnancy.
On Taylor, Shumpert poured his love out via an Instagram message, sharing that he’s “…never held a woman on a pedestal like this before… You have changed my life forever.”
Their fun-loving relationship has shown in Taylor’s Instagram as well, as she’s been having fun experimenting with big hair and bouncy, tousled curls.
Brandy, Ever After

Ellen’s pick: Singer and actress Brandy has lately been taking over television with her back-to-back appearances in shows like The Game and her lead role in the show, Zoe Ever After. Perhaps best known for the show, Moesha (and her signature braids), Brandy has completely switched up her style since those beginnings, chopping her hair into a blunt bob cut with tousled waves that make for a more mature style.
Lupita’s Length

Kelsey’s pick: When the world first met actress Lupita Nyong’o she was sporting an ever so adorable TWA (check out Lupita’s Hair Story). As we’ve watched her career take new heights, we’re starting to see her hair reach new lengths. The Star Wars actress was spotted rocking long cornrows, a protective look that’s probably attributed to her recent growth. One of our favorite Lupita 2015 looks was captured in a recent Elle UK spread featuring the Kenyan-Mexican beauty and her free flowing tight tiny curls.
The Real Deal

Abigail’s pick: Tamera Mowry is best known as “Miss Play it Safe” on her popular daytime gab fest “The Real”, now in its second season. However, since surprising us by undergoing the big chop last summer, she finally put her beautiful, natural curls on full display, recently saying this about her decision:
For all my natural sisters. This is for you! I was inspired when I saw many of you embracing your hair. The big chop was scary and I received some hurtful comments along the way. But I never ever gave up. Learn to love the hair you were born with. Take care of it. People ask me why I never wear my curls out all the time? It’s because I love them so much I want to protect them. So I get to explore with amazing wigs. This is ME; ALL OF ME. No wig, no extensions, no clip ons. Just me. And boy do I love it!
The fun and out-going twin didn’t stop there, she also played with color, wigs and fun haircuts, proving that hair is the best accessory and needn’t be taken so seriously.
DVF’s Show Stoppers

Chadette’s pick: Leave it to the elegantly vivacious, Diane von Furstenberg to create one of the best hair moments of NYFW 2015. In collaboration with celebrity hair stylist, Orlando Pita, the iconic designer added a much needed sashay to the humdrum assembly line of pin straight locks and loosened waves, with dramatic, side-swept pin curls, finished off with a mesmeric bloom of floral appliques. Modeled after DVF’s legendary Studio 54 looks and the goddess of luck, Fortuna, her line up of supermodels (Imaan Hammam, Aya Jones, Tami Williams and Anais Mali) exudes an ethereal glamour and feminine confidence – worthy of divine praise, indeed.
Winning Wendy

Antonia’s pick: Is it safe to say that at this moment Wendy Williams is the only Black woman with her own daytime talk show on network television? If she’s not the only one, she’s certainly one of a small handful. With The Wendy Williams Show averaging two million viewers per episode, millions have been entertained by the frank talk show host throughout the seven years the show has aired and millions have borne witness to the plethora of wigs she’s donned throughout the series. Like her hosting skills, Wendy’s wig game has gotten stronger over time. A woman of a certain age (as she likes to quip), she seems to have really honed in on what she likes and what works well with her buxom look. This season Williams stuck with her staple honey hue, but we saw her play with length a little more and occasionally with color. Five looks really stuck out this year, with four out of five of them being shoulder length ‘dos. In the summer she was bone straight and chic one day and then went ultra wavy, ultra long and ultra blonde the next. She toned down the waves a bit in October with a darker highlighted middle-parted wig that elegantly framed her face. In November she glamed it up with a wavy sultry swoop. Most recently, in one of her especially stand-out looks, her stylist channeled Beyoncé’s wavy “Drunk in Love” bob, and here’s where we saw a little bit of color play—dark roots with a strawberry blonde hue. Wendy is unapologetic in her use of wigs and she takes advantage of the versatility they can provide.
The Encore

Chadette’s pick: Back again for a second appearance on the Un-ruly, Best of Celebrity Hair List, dancing diva, Ciara caused quite a stir at this year’s’ NYFW with eye skimming bangs coupled with a layered bob. While the look was short lived in all but three days, her sexy yet simple fringe proved to be just the winning ticket to guaranteed New York fashion Week headlines.
Zen Zendaya

PHOTO VIA
Abigail’s pick: What a whirlwind year it’s been for relative new-comer, Zendaya Coleman! She graced many a red carpets with dynamic hairstyles, not to mention had a Barbie doll made in the likeness of her polarizing dreadlock ‘do at this year’s Oscars. What makes Zendaya a worthy addition to this list is the fact that through it all, she has not been afraid to stand up for herself and other black girls everywhere.
Teyonah Goes Geometric

Photos via Complex & Pinterest
Kelsey’s Pick: Actress Teyonah Parris has long been a natural hair community favorite after she rocked her hair in all it’s natural glory on the red carpet (check out Teyonah’s Hair Story) in 2013. This year she’s back in the news, staring in Spike Lee’s Chiraq. A social commentary, the film naturally features Parris in an perfectly politically charged afro. Parris goes from perfectly global to perfectly asymmetrical in a shoot for Complex magazine, featuring the actress in a triangular-shaped ‘do.
It’s time to vote! Who’s crown should take home crown this year?
