Wigs have come a long way. They used to be the synthetic-looking thing your grandma had on her nightstand that you didn’t DARE touch for fear of getting a whooping, but now they’re a mainstay in the hair world and they are WAY more believable–sorry Nanna.
With so many great options out there, how do you pick the best one? Where do you go? How can you tell which one is for you? Well we’ve got you covered, especially if you have Amazon Prime. We’ve done the research and narrowed down the wide array of options available on Amazon to make your shopping experience a little easier.
The Most Affordable Wig: Elesty
Let’s start off with the most affordable wigs on the Amazon market. There are a ton of YouTube videos out there that cover the best Amazon wigs under $100.
Elesty is a synthetic lace front wig that has a ton of great reviews on YouTube and is being called the “best synthetic” wig on Amazon. Vloggers and reviewers say it’s a soft wig that doesn’t tangle easily and looks realistic. The best part: it’s $80. Grab it on Amazon here. Above’s a review and install done by SeeKela Live. She cut her own baby hairs and shows how the wig holds up when flat ironed. (Note: At the time she posted the video the wig was $38 and has since risen in price, probably due to popularity.)
The bad? Some reviewers said their wig tangled and shed a lot, but the majority of Amazon reviews gave it 4 or 5 stars.
Best Human Hair Wigs
Finding the best human hair wig on Amazon is hard because there are SO many options, however we’ve whittled it down to two wigs that are 100% human hair and under $300. Many of these come in a variety of colors and lengths.
HiBaby
This bone straight wig from HiBaby hair has a ton of great reviews on Amazon and Youtube and comes in two great colors. You can choose from 14 inches to 22 inches depending on the length you want and best of all it has a pre-plucked hairline. Amazon reviews say the unit is thick, soft, and looks very natural. TwinGoddesses on YouTube reviewed this wig and showed how she bleached the knots for an even more realistic look.
Price: Depending on the length you can spend between $109 to $168.
The bad? Some reviewers complain that the wig is too thin, but a majority of those that reviewed it loved the density of the wig.
Hermosa
Time and time again Hermosa popped up as the best human hair wig on Amazon. All of the reviews say it’s easy to install and good quality human hair. Seriously, looking up hermosa wig on YouTube yielded a ton of results; it was hard to pick just one. The above review by AmeyB shows how she installed the wig and customized the length.
Price: Depending on length you can spend $112 – $329
The Best Curly Wig on Amazon: Releek
There are a ton of curly wig options on Amazon–everything from a 24-inch deep wave to a kinky-curly bob. The options are endless. But what’s being hailed as the best curly hair wig? That honor goes to Releek Hair. This deep-wave Brazilian human hair wig has a ton of reviews on YouTube as well and in each one the vlogger was able to pull the wig from its packaging, install and go. For most of these reviews there was no plucking or bleaching required which is a big plus for beginners. Above’s a great review from Ro Lyss. She shows you how to lay the lace and disguise the lace with makeup as opposed to bleaching.
Price: Depending on length $119 to $265
Best Straight Wig
This next wig is coming from the recommendation of a YouTube makeup and hair icon, MsAaliyahJay. This Kun Gang wig, while it comes bone straight, can be customized with heat because it is a human hair wig. The reviews on Amazon say it’s a soft, natural-looking wig that’s easy to install. Above’s the video of MsAalyiahJay installing and styling the wig. She uses concealer and bronzer to enhance the part.
Price: Depending on length $154 to $205
The bad? Some reviewers say the wig had too many flyaways, but others had no issues.
The Best Long Wig
Sometimes your standard 24-inch wig just isn’t enough and you want to up the drama without breaking the bank. Well, if you’re looking for a 32-inch human hair wig that’s fully customizable, your best bet is Viennois. Vlogger Mariah Monea gives a great review of the wig. Watch her review on Youtube. It is a lace front wig that comes pre-plucked, the only thing Mariah’s stylist had to do was bleach the knots and add a few layers. She said it’s pretty much a brush and go wig with very little shedding!
Price: 30 inches will cost you $276, 32-inches comes in at $319
The bad? Mariah wished the hair had a little more density but given the price she’s happy with the thickness.
The Best Short Wig on Amazon
Finding a short wig on Amazon that doesn’t look like your grandma’s is a task but if you’re looking for something that gives you the sleek bob look without taking a trip to your stylist and sacrificing your precious inches, this Megalook Bob has you covered. It comes in a range of lengths, with the shortest being 8 inches. It’s a natural-looking, human hair wig, perfect to throw on for a cute sporty look. Vlogger Latrice M gives a great review of the wig as well as how to style the hair. The hair moves well and can take heat from a flat iron.
Price: Depending on length $87 – $136
The bad? A few reviews mention that the hair quality isn’t great, but overall most buyers are extremely pleased with how the wig came as delivered.
Best Wig with a Headband
The headband wig came out of nowhere this past year (thanks pandemic). All of a sudden headband wigs were the go to standard for looking cute in 5 minutes–literally. (Check out our deep-dive on headband wigs). So what’s the best headband wig on Amazon? I will say this was a tough one to judge, there are A LOT of headband wigs depending on the type of hair you’re looking for, but Beauty Forever takes the top spot, offering a water wave wig in variety of lengths and colors–oh and it’s also human hair.
Vlogger Lauren Monty gives a funny and great review of the Beauty Forever headband wig, while styling it in a cute way. You can also use whatever headbands you choose so you’re not limited on how you can style the wig. NOTE: This wig was gifted to her from Beauty Forever but the reviews on Amazon speak for themselves.
Price: Depending on length $80 – $244.
The bad? Lauren Monty wished there was more security to the wig with a better comb placement or fabric that grips the hair.
Tips on Finding a Good Wig on Amazon
Still looking for a wig on Amazon? Here are some tips that we used to make sure we get the most bang for your buck.
- Start on YouTube. We searched “best wigs on Amazon” on YouTube and found a ton of great compilation videos of vloggers trying on different wigs. We made sure the videos were less than a year old and were not sponsored.
- Go to Amazon. After seeing a few wigs that we thought would work for what we were looking for we headed over to Amazon and put the names in the search bar (or clicked the links from the videos). We scrolled through and looked at the top reviews AND we read the WORST reviews to see why customers weren’t happy with the purchase. If most of the bad reviews were old or had to do with things we knew we wouldn’t care about (i.e. dying the hair) then we considered it.
- Look at the “related products.” Amazon does a great job of cataloging their inventory, so they know what they have and what is very similar to it. We use the convenient comparison chart to see if there are any other wigs out there we should look into before completing our list.
- Search YouTube again. If you find another wig you like while perusing Amazon, look it up! Chances are there is a review or 10 on the wig and it will give you a good deal more information than reviews on Youtube.
No matter what type of wig you’re looking for, make sure you take your time, narrow down your search and watch as many reviews as you can. You might not get it right all of the time, but you’ll likely feel way more confident about your Amazon purchase if you’ve done the research.
