Editor’s Note: Last week we spotlighted Black women in Italy that are carving out a space for themselves in popular media. This week we’re taking a look at their counterparts in France.
What She Does: Undeterred by comments such as, “we already have Jourdan Dunn, one black girl is enough,” French born Anais Mali continues to break the mold of fashion’s standards of beauty. Initially scouted in the south of France, eighteen year old Mali decisively made the change to work in New York under legendary Wilhelmina Models with hopes for a more diversified conscious market. With career highlights featuring editorial spreads for Vogue (Italia, France & US), Harper’s Bazaar, i-D and countless runway appearances for the likes of Betsey Johnson, Vivienne Westwood, and Vera Wang, the Chadian/Polish beauty has surpassed newcomer status proving her talent as a model in demand.
Signature Look: As a model, Anais’ hair is often seen in diverse styles, from afros to long, flowing weaves. When going for a simpler look, she styles her hair in a centered part, low ponytail with neutral makeup tones accentuating her naturally beautiful features!
