This week we’re taking a look at the hairstyles of each character in our web series du jour: An African City. First up is Nana Yaa played by MaameYaa Boafo.

Per the AAC website, “Nana Yaa, a Ghanaian, was raised in New York state, just outside New York City. She returned to Ghana after earning her first degree at Georgetown University and her graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University.”

We first meet Nana arriving at the airport in Accra, making her way back home to her parents’ house. Her little twists (or finger coils) and bright red lipstick give her a striking resemblance to Lauryn Hill’s character in The Sister Act II. Within the first three episodes we see Nana take her twists into a cute off-center top knot and then a double french braid with a ribbon, which is by far our favorite look so far.
