Ask an Expert: How Frequently Should Weave Be Used as a Protective Style?

  • by Staff
  • Ask an Expert / Care / Weaves & Wigs

Our expert this month is celebrity hair stylist, Chuck Amos.  Over the years, Chuck has honed his craft, working with the likes of singer Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Diana Ross and on advertising campaigns such as Queen Latifah for Cover Girl and the highly successful Got Milk campaign featuring singer and actress, Vanessa Williams.

Question:  Our reader Jolene asks: How frequently should weave be used as protective style?

Answer:   Weave can be used as a protective style when you are transitioning from relaxed to natural hair.  It can also be used when your hair is weak and fragile by choosing  to braid it up and protect it by putting a weave over it; protecting your real hair underneath, in the cornrows!

You can follow Chuck Amos on Twitter at @ChuckieLove. Remember, if you have questions for our experts you can submit them on our submissions page.
