One of the silver linings of the passing of a great one is all the reflection that happens subsequently. It’s a beautiful thing to log on to Facebook or Instagram and see the #selfies and #foodporn get replaced with beautiful quotes from a beautiful inspirational woman.
Maya Angelou’s life has no shortage of proof of what the human spirit can endure and what it can achieve. This was a woman who was raped at age seven and a mother at age 17. “By the time she was 40 she had also been, in no particular order, a cook, a waitress, a madam, a prostitute, a dancer, an actress, a playwright, an editor at an English-language newspaper in Egypt, and a Calypso singer (her one album is entitled ‘Miss Calypso.’) per Time.com. There’s so much that can be learned from Maya’s story, and we luckily have her autobiographical books to glean all that we can, as well as her influence that can be seen in writers that followed her or people she simply just touched.
I like to think that when you live a life that breathes life into others you never really die. So today I’m not commemorating Maya Angelou’s passing but celebrating her ever-presence. #mayaliveson.
Let’s keep her lessons and spirit alive. Share your favorite Maya Angelou Quote or tell us what you learned from Maya in the comments below!
