Kinky-Curly Knot Today has been praised the web over for its detangling and moisturizing properties. Winning NaturallyCurly’s Best Leave-In Conditioner category in 2009, it continues to receive praise from naturalistas, who appreciate its organic ingredients and great slip. But is it worth $13.00 per bottle? Here are our thoughts…
main takeaway:
- This product is great for detangling, but must be used on wet hair to be most efficient.
- The reviews were very mixed on moisture. Some said that it provided adequate moisture as a leave-in, while others found it lacking and chose to mix it with oils such as jojoba.
- Some said that it was necessary to use another product or oil as a sealant after using Knot Today.
- Using it under a gel seemed to be very effective for attaining curl definition.
- The main downside is the price. At nearly $13.00 per bottle, the product gets used up rather quickly, especially if you have thick and/or dry hair.
- This product works best as a leave-in for those with very curly/kinky hair, and best as a regular wash-out conditioner for those with wavier hair.
what the manufacturer says:
KNOT TODAY is a creamy herbal conditioner and detangler designed to smooth the cuticle and remove knots, snarls and tangles from thick curly textured hair.
After washing hair, apply KNOT TODAY generously and work through troubled areas with a wide tooth comb. It can be used as a regular rinse out conditioner for wavy hair or as a leave-in for thicker curlier hair types. An excellent product to use after removing braids and extensions.
TIP: When using this product as a leave-in, apply in the shower and rinse with a little water to evenly distribute the conditioner.

“Don’t let the name fool you. Kinky Curly Knot Today is an excellent leave in/ detangler for us relaxed girls. If your hair craves moisture like my hair craves moisture, this product will be a hit for you. As we transition from summer to autumn, I will use this as my staple leave in since it is glycerin free.”

[/ts_one_half] [ts_one_half] “The product does not dispense well. You have to shake the bottle sometimes for it to come out. However, this conditioner is the business when it comes to detangling. It EASILY melts tangles away. I do not even use a comb when I am using this product to detangle.” – Coily Bella [/ts_one_half] [/ts_row]
“If you have dry hair, I definitely recommend that you couple KCKT with another moisture intensive leave-in. Bottom line: I give this product two thumbs up. The price is decent, and the slip is AMAZING for it to be cone free.”
what the vloggers said
Some people felt that this worked great as a detangler, but not that well as a moisturizer and felt it was best to mix with other oils or products for best results. An extremely popular recipe is the “Kimmaytube leave-in”.

This is my staple detangler and leave-in since I went natural in 2007. Love it. It makes detangling a breeze. My only beef with it is that I go thru 1 bottle in no time. I have recently started adding in aloe vera, oils, hibiscus etc. to make it last longer since it is so expensive and I sometimes make my own homemade version using BTMS, Slippery elm and hibiscus to give my pocket a break and it is just as effective.

The only bad thing as a lot of people said, it’s the ability to moisturize which i found not super at all…really i was expecting my hair to be moisturise, and the more you put it the more it’s was dryier.. Still i couldn’t leave it on my shelf, so i mist my hair then apply KCKT, a mix of organic extra virgin Coconut oil with Jojoba and shea butter or Belle Unyevu butter.

It really does help detangling and loose the cuticles, you just have to let it sit. My only complaint is the price and how much you get in the bottle! – Babsy

I swear by this!! But because of the price I use a cheaper drugstore conditioner to properly detangle, use this to do a final comb through when the knots are out and use this as a leave in but this conditioner is IT!
