Why read review after review when you can just read one? We’ve “combed” the web to get the verdict on Motions’ Moisturizing Cleanser and Smoothing Conditioner.

Motions recently updated their For Natural Textures line! The line consists of cleansers, conditioners, masques, sealers, hair gloss and a curl crème and pudding, but we will be focusing on their Moisturizing Cleanser and their Smoothing Conditioner. They also have products for the naturals out there that need protection when they style their hair with heat. They insist that their line will restore a healthy pH balance, soften and restore bounce, as well as strengthen natural hair textures, but let’s see what’s really going on.

main takeaway

The Moisturizing Cleanser and Smoothing Conditioner are primarily for natural hair and they work wonderfully on all hair types! They smooth the cuticle to soften and rejuvenate curls. These products certainly nourish and moisturize your hair! Their formulas lessen porosity, as well as make the hair easy to comb and manage. Users who don’t have natural hair (relaxed or tex-laxed hair) even claim that these products are great for their hair!

When I was younger, I only used Motions as a relaxer for my hair, so I when I heard about their natural line, I jumped right to it! I wasn’t going to buy it at first because of the small size (I have to share these hair products with my sister), but I decided to give it a try anyway. I have to say, I actually really like the cleanser and the conditioner! They definitely bring out the best of my natural hair. They actually treat my relaxed hair pretty well also. The cleanser and the conditioner really moisturizes and repairs my hair. They have products in the natural hair line for heat styled hair and I am definitely considering giving them a try as well.

Like many, I’m a junkie for rich textured conditioners – so this one was a true winner. Why? because I like my mane to feel as if each strand is drinking its conditioner. Soon as I applied about 2 squirts (think the size of two quarters together), I just lathered the conditioner in and let it marinate. Truthfully, I didn’t realize how much my hair craved the moisturizing formulas.

The Motions Moisturizing Cleanser contains sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as one of it’s first ingredients, but with those extra ingredients I knew SLS was nothing to worry about. This may bother some other naturals, but for me this meant that my hair might actually get clean. The Motions Moisturizing Cleanser was all that and then some! I loved the way it suds up and gave me a lot of slip to be able to detangle my hair while washing. The cleanser did not leave my hair feeling stripped or dry after rinsing it out. In fact it was just the opposite. Upon doing a scalp check I found that my scalp was squeaky clean and I did not have to go in for another wash like I normally would have to do with my usual regimen.

It does cleanse nicely without drying. It was easy enough to use BUT I have reservations. This product is very sudsy. Far more than I was anticipating so it definitely falls more firmly into shampoo land than I was looking for. After I washed I was going to cowash just in case but found I didn’t need to. My hair as it dried felt nice and soft and still moisturized. My scalp was a little gunky to begin with and it felt nice and clean. My various sized/textured curls and coils were all very springy. No super frizz happening.

I have naturally curly/wavy hair that, when left to its own devices, would be really tightly curled and/or frizzy. My hair loves this stuff. It loosens the curls just enough and maintains both softness and shine without weighing it down and without the frizzies.

This Motions Naturally You cleanser is really good for getting grime out of the hair. I accidentally leaned against some sort of an oily substance in a car garage and had to get it out of my hair. Ooola. It smells decent and doesn’t weight your hair down. I do use it and would recommend it to others for regular use.

Pretty good shampoo. I can’t say that my hair felt like after a conditioner, but that’s not a shampoos job. It wasn’t super moisturizing, but it didn’t STRIP my hair of moisture. After my prepoo, this did just it’s job: clean. My hair was without product residue, and not super moisturized, but not dry. Will probably not buy again, since I can probably fine a shampoo better that leaves my hair more moisturized, but this one was not bad.
