What are boho box braids?

Boho box braids (sometimes also referred to a Goddess Box Braids) are a free-flowing, bohemian take on box braids which are achieved by incorporating curly or wavy pieces of hair throughout the braids.

Our Boho box braids are also knotless which means less tension is placed on your scalp, you get a flatter finish at the root, and a more natural-looking result. They’re perfect for anyone who wants protective styling without the pull.

Human vs synthetic hair?

What’s the difference between using human hair and synthetic hair for Boho Box Braids? Both work beautifully for Boho Box Braids, but the look, feel, and upkeep will differ.

Human hair gives you a softer, more natural finish, especially for the curly pieces. It blends seamlessly with your own hair, tangles less, and can be restyled with heat, but it’s more expensive because it takes more time to install and secure.

Synthetic hair is more affordable and holds its curl pattern longer, but it can feel stiffer at first and may tangle faster—especially the curly strands.

If you want an ultra-natural, touchable finish, go human. If you’re after a budget-friendly option with set-and-forget curls, synthetic is the way to go.

Note: a lot of people choose a combination of human and synthetic hair—using synthetic hair for the braid itself and human hair for the loose strands and ends. If you’d like to do that, select the synthetic option above and you’ll be able to choose what type of hair for the ends, etc at the add-on page.

Do Boho Box Braids have to be knotless?

Not necessarily but ours are. Boho box braids can be done with either traditional or knotless bases. That said, knotless is often preferred for its natural look and added comfort. If you’d like traditional box braids, you can select this option and add wavy ends at the add-on step.

Do I need to buy my own hair?

We don’t carry an extensive inventory of hair, so clients have to purchase their own. But we’ve created this guide if you need recommendations.

Are Boho Box Braids heavy?
There’s some weight to any style with extensions, especially with added curls. A knotless base can help reduce tension, and choosing a standard length over extra-long braids can keep things feeling light and wearable.

How long do boho box braids last?

With proper care and cleansing, you can expect them to last up to 6–8 weeks. But we generally recommend keeping protective styles in for four weeks, to promote a healthy scalp and hair. Learn more here.
