“Latch” by Sam Smith
Sam Smith won how many Grammy’s this week? Each one of those babies was well-deserved with him belting out such beautiful melodies that cover a wide range of notes. Now I’ve got Smith in my space I definitely won’t let go. I’m latched onto this song.
“Blank Space” by Taylor Swift
The world is probably sick of this song, but I just discovered it. (Yes, I’ve been living under a rock for the past month). It’s not the most traditional V-Day song, but if you’re in one of those new crazy-in-love relationships, perhaps Taylor Swift’s blank space is a tune you should be jamming along to this Feb 14th.

“The Truth” by India Arie
India’s ode to the love of her life radiates with affection in this slow jam. Her soothing voice exudes a warm, intimate vibe, giving me Valentine’s Day fever.
“Alone Together” by Daley (feat. Marsha Ambrosius)
Daley and Marsha do a great job of singing in such blended, soulful voices that you literally can’t tell who is singing which verse! The title of the song alone hints at how conflicting yet worthwhile love really is, making it the perfect tune to show a loved one how you really feel.

“Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song is About You)” by Janet (ft. Missy Elliott & Carly Simon)
Missy, Janet, and Carly! I live for early 2000’s girl power collabs! Is it weird to say that Janet’s abs make me feel powerful? And on Valentine’s Day: Feeling Powerful/Myself > Everything Else.
“Back at One” by Brian McKnight
I feel so deceived, because a man wearing a fuzzy blue turtleneck and leather pants, counting at me, is somehow working for me on every level (?)! If my math teachers had picked up on what Brian was putting down, maybe I would have been more receptive to them counting at me, too.

“Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran
Every now and again, I can hear a song once and fall for it immediately. This piece is one of those songs. It’s an ideal blend of blue grass soul and current pop standard. The lyrics are simple yet powerful and the best part is… I love that it’s performed by such an unlikely source! I had no idea Ed Sheeran in all of his British, red head glory could belt out such a beautiful ballad. Hands down, the wedding song of 2015!
“Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay
First off, Coldplay is one of my favorite musical acts of all time so it was no surprise that, “A Sky Full of Stars” first came to mind during the compilation of our playlist. It’s a hypnotizing, fun and vibrant song that can be applied to any relationship, whether it’s a spouse, relative, best friend… anyone. The lyrics are incredibly universal and the message of unconditional love never gets lost against the electronic beats.

“My Girl” by The Temptations
Call me an old soul, but Doo Wop and that old Motown sound have done a lot to shape my appreciation for music. Whether it’s being sung by a neighborhood A Capella group on the subway train in Brooklyn, or it’s perfectly placed to score a romantic moment on the big screen, “My Girl” is a timeless classic that always finds its way into our collective hearts.
“Be My Baby” by The Ronettes
Keeping with the sixties theme, popular boy and girl groups of this by gone era sang about the many shades of love…heartbreak, infatuation and of course, longing. This Valentine’s Day, what better way to ask someone to be yours than with this oldie but goodie!
