As a born again natural hair virgin I want to ensure every product and every technique I use on my hair ensures maximum health to my sprouting strands and quite honestly I was dumbfounded to discover the fragile relationship shared between naturals and shampoo. With methods varying from pre-poo to cowashes, it seemed to some that shampoo was either an enemy that you kept at a distance or never meddled with at all. It was astonishing really and I suddenly found myself questioning if my beloved, weekly shampoo sessions would have to be cut down to a biweekly event or even exist at all.
The solution? Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo. A cleansing, “moisturizing” all organic blend of argan oil, sea kelp and shea butter, that leaves my hair soft, detangled and most importantly sulfate and paraban free! There is nothing more satisfying to know that I’m treating my hair to a necessary wash but not stripping it of its essential oils and moisture. I found Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo thick in consistency and silky to the touch with generous slip.
main takeaway

This product really got my scalp clean on the first try! I also don’t believe in shampooing more than once. (I read somewhere, that that’s just a manufacturer’s claim to get you use up more of the product more quickly). It was extremely emollient with a lot of slip. So much, in fact, that I was able to finger detangle the section BEFORE I used my Trader Joe’s Condish and detangling comb to finish the job!.
What I loved most about this shampoo is that it…has…SLIP? I think I could possibly detangle my hair with this shampoo (strong POSSIBLY). It almost feels like a light conditioner of some sort. AND it effectively cleanses my scalp. I love it. I would, however, suggest to dilute it a bit with water (about 1/2 cup/ bottle) to loosen it up a bit, because since it is SO thick, it leaves the bottle quickly. Overall, definitely one of my favorites.
This shampoo right here has helped my hair stay moisturized for days instead of just one or two days. My scalp has also been relieved of it’s dryness. After two weeks of use I think it’s safe to say I will be adding this to my staple hair products.
