When it comes to hair extensions, there’s lots to choose from–wigs, weaves, fusion and clip-ins just to name a few. I’ve always been a big proponent of wigs because they’re so easy, but recently I decided to give clip-ins a try. Two good things about clip-ins are they give you more control of the volume of your hair and more control over the style. When it comes to wigs and weaves, you’re kind of stuck with the style you buy or put in, whereas with clip-ins you can easily change your look and you can create parted looks. However, one of the biggest concerns people have when considering wigs or clip-ins is whether or not they’re secure. God forbid they fall out at an inopportune moment *meep.* So with my first go-around with this form of extensions I did a little ‘investigating’ to see how well they could endure the ‘elements.’
The Hair
First, let’s discuss the hair I tried! Let me just say, I’m in LOVE! From the packaging to the product itself, Kurly Klips delivers quality, hands down. It only took a few days for the order to arrive (they ship world wide by the way). I ordered the Mermaid Fro Clip In (good for 3c/4c hair) in natural black, which can be dyed. I’ll tell you right now, this hair is what one might call a beauty investment, with prices starting at $159. But it’s 100% human hair so it’ll last and you can do more with it. The box itself has two sections. The part with the window contains one small clip of the hair you’ve purchased so that you can feel it out and verify it’s the right texture and color for you without opening the full box. If it’s not what you were expecting, you can exchange or return the hair. See their return/exchange policy here. (I know return policies are usually a concern when making a premium purchase online.) If you do love the hair, which you most likely will, you can open up the rest of the box and have it!
Once you open the box, you’ll notice how pleasant the hair smells and how soft it feels. The curl pattern also really looks like our kind of hair! Kinky weaves still continue to amaze me. It’s crazy that it’s taken this long for us to finally have extensions that match our natural hair texture. Anyhoo, I plan on experimenting a lot more style-wise with these clips, but I decided to start out with a simple side part and a full head of hair. I pretty much left no hair out and I used two boxes. I was actually able to cover my whole head with one box but I wanted that uber volume so I put both in!
Okay, So How Secure are These Clip Ins?
As soon as you put the clips in, you can feel that you have nothing to worry about. They’re like super strength clips; I can’t fathom how they could possibly fall out. But I wanted to have my fun putting them through the wringer anyway! Here’s how they held up…
They faired well in a mild to strong breeze. (No clips blowing away here!)
If ever you have the urge, to hang upside down, go at it! Your clips won’t fall out.
And if someone just happens to randomly pour a bucket of water on your head, no worries here either. These babies aren’t going anywhere.
By the way, this hair handles water really well! I separated some of the curls when I first put in the hair, just to kind of shape it. Once the water hit the hair, the curls immediately clumped back together, like brand new.
Needless to say, I am looking forward to rocking my Klips, worry-free. And you can too, with $10 off your purchase. Just include this discount code courtesy of Lana at Kurly Klips for Un-ruly readers: UNRULYRULES.
