With summer days still long and filled with sunlight, it’s hard not to want to channel that same vibrancy and lightheartedness from toe to head. Of course, we all have our fair share of summer attire—flowing dresses, loose linens—but often times it’s the accessories that really bring a look home. Hence, our summer accessory du jour is the graceful and unexpectedly versatile flower crown.
A flower crown can quickly create a boho/children of the sun look but it doesn’t always have to take you in that direction. Varying the size, number, colors and types of flowers and, of course, what you pair your crown with, can change your flowery vibe altogether.
Big flowers in your crown can liven up a teeny weeny afro, while opting for just one color and type of flower can keep the look from looking too busy.
Minimal or neutral makeup can be a good choice when wearing a flower crown if you’re looking to keep the attention on your hair.
Try using the crown more like a head band if you’re not the type to have hair or accessories on your forehead all day.
Use the flowers to add a splash of color to an otherwise muted color palette. A long side-swept pony tail can balance out some of the drama of your look.
One of the best things about flower crowns is that they make for a fun DIY project which can result in crown that is uniquely your own. Check out Charisma Star’s tutorial below if you’re in the mood to get crafty.
