The Disney classic Mary Poppins, is one of our all time favorite family films, so when we heard about Disney’s latest movie “Saving Mr. Banks” we were giddy with excitement and eager to learn more. The movie stars two-time Academy Award–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar-winner Tom Hanks and is inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen back in 1964. When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against an uncompromising writer (P.L. Travers) who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine.
Check out the trailer. The film opens nationwide on December 20, 2013.

Although not out until the spring of 2014, we want to make sure that Creativity, Inc. (Random House) from Ed Catmull, co-founder (with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter) of Pixar Animation Studios —an incisive book about creativity in business, is on your radar. Creativity, Inc. is a book for managers who want to lead their employees to new heights, however we find it a wealth of information for anyone who strives for originality, and wants and inside look into the nerve center of Pixar Animation Studios—where art is born. It is, at heart, a book about how to build and sustain a creative culture—but it is also, as Pixar co-founder and president Ed Catmull writes, “an expression of the ideas that I believe make the best in us possible.” The book is available for pre-order on Google Play and the Random House website.

When former Disney star, Miley Cyrus is not grabbing for everyone’s attention, the name that seems to be on everyone’s lips lately (and for good reason) is Lorde. The 17-year old New Zealand singer has been turning heads for all the right reasons, with her unique vocals and sound. We were so impressed to learn that she inked a development deal with Universal Records when she was just 12 and spent the last four years writing and releasing her first EP, The Love Club (available on iTunes). The stunning video for her single “Royals” (watch here), sat atop New Zealand’s music chart for months, and now she’s basically, poised to take over the world. And we’re totally convinced she’s about to do just that.
