My daughter has very kinky hair that tends to shrink. Do you have any advice on what products/how to style her hair that will minimize shrinkage?

Hello Kiara,
In terms of products, my suggestion is to stay away from any “enhancing” products. Although they are moisturizing, they will just allow more shrinkage during the summer months. I would suggest that you look for elongating products. My personal favorite is the Curl Prep Sweet Buttah. Other good brands include: Dark & Lovely Au Naturale and 4Naturals.
I would also suggest that you try twisting her tresses in medium sized twists and at night use bobby pins to stretch them or wrap the twists to elongate them. I know first hand that shrinkage can be extremely disappointing. However, it is important to keep in mind that shrinkage is a sign of healthy hair that has good elasticity.
